Yurie Ekiya graduated from Japan’s Tama Art University in 2010 and has been working as an illustrator ever since. You can recognize her work by the vivid colors and huge sparkly eyes.
As you might have guessed Yurie is a true child of the 80’s. She developed her colorful style while reminiscing about Japanese comics and cartoons like Popples and Yums Yums. You can see these influences in her fluffy PeroPero characters, named Melo, Cune and Rue.
Next to animals Sekiya also likes to illustrate girls, which she did for the Hanamizz Girls and Hanamizz Twins characters. Several items with these Hanamizz characters were for sale at Parco.
Recently Sekiya launched her Peropero*Sparkles store of character goods that include clothes, accessories and plush toys. She is currently planning new projects for her fans overseas *yay*.
This pictures reveals Sekiya’s love for Popples, the Peropero*Sparkles characters have got a similar pompom-tipped tail.
The cute handmade plushies come in a limited edition at a hefty price tag of about $250, but I’m sure they’re worth it ^_^. Above you see Cune, with hair that reminds me a bit of the Pixietails from Lady Lovelylocks.
I would like to conclude this post with the most adorable poofy rainbow kittens, what’s not to like?
Follow Yurie at Tumblr or make your wallet cry at the PeroPero Shop.
Cute overload!!! Ahhh, I can even deal~
