Suprise Kawaii Mix Bag Review

Blippo -the maker of the kawaii box- has released a new item: a Suprise Kawaii Mixed Bag. It’s based on the Fukubukuro lucky bags from Japan. Merchants fill grab bags with unknown contents and sell them at a great discount on New Year’s Day. They are also known as lucky bags, because you might find a highly sought-after item inside. Or in the unlucky case that you’ve got a utsubukuro (“depressing bag”), you’ll discover nothing but unwanted items. Well, I can tell you that there was nothing depressing about the Blippo surprise bag!

The lucky bag itself is very cute and -at about 25cm large- it can hold a good amount of items. The bag is made out of a sturdy fabric with a pink drawstring, so you can easily reuse it. Blippo promises to include a random assortment of at least 15 cute and practical items. Let’s check to see what’s inside!

The chunky pastel shell bracelet and fruity hairclips go along well with a cute summer outfit. The bracelet was a tad too large for my (small) wrist, but it can easily be fixed by tightening the elastic band.

To be honest I’ve been eyeing this pair of ribbon eye glass frames for a while, so I was happy to find it included! They fit surprisingly well, given the fact that most glasses look too big on me. I wonder if it’s possible to get a pair of (prescription) lenses fitted inside the frame.

Next up are a couple of items that I wouldn’t mind bringing along. The animal spray bottle is perfect as a small water mister, especially for those hotter-than-hot summer days. We’ve had a few too many of those days lately in the Netherlands :(.
The pink chocolate bar holds a mirror and a comb, making it great for quick touch up.

Okay, who let the cat out of the bag? This soft small Nemuneko plush fits right into my crazy cat lady collection.

The surprise bag contained a couple of cute purses. I’ve received a watermelon purse in a kawaii box before. This new version is sewn differently, making it less symmetrical, although the seed pattern is nicer now. Still it’s very soft and comes in handy to hold tiny items. The Pikachu coin purse has got a lovely embroidered face, but I think that his head could have been a bit rounder. I’m using it to hold my Pokemon Go accessories (small charger & plus bracelet).

The tiny animal face purse is just perfect, very sturdy and lined with a soft fabric.

The included Oreo and crepe charms aren’t really my taste. I’m not a big fan of the soft spongy materials and greyish colours.

The Alpaca cardholder is very well made. You can use it for quick acces to a buss card or identity card and hang it from your bag. Personally I prefer a window case, as you can easily swipe it, but this one does look super cute. The jewelry stickers are always nice to have at hand for decorating.

This kiwi juice fan will be a nice refreshment during hot days. The illustrations are so sweet! Blippo sells this fan in multiple colours at a very decent price.

The bag contained a macaron travel tag, which was also included in the Kawaii Box from March. It came in another colour though and I can always put this to good use.

Is the surprise kawaii bag worth it?

I really enjoyed unpacking the bag. It felt a bit like unpacking birthday presents, and I liked it how all the items seemed to fit into a fruity, summer theme. This mix bag would also make a nice gift to a kawaii-loving friend or relative.

The Surprise Mix Bag is only €13.60 / $15.20 including shipping if you use the coupon code kawaiilove. The value of all the items in my bag added up to just over €36,- / $40.- (many of the included items are currently on sale), so that’s over 50% discount!

If you aren’t really interested in Japanse candy, you might prefer the Surprise Mix Bag over the Kawaii Box. Please keep in mind that other bags won’t have the same exact content as mine did, since that wouldn’t be much of a surprise ;)
Blippo also sells other Lucky bags with a different theme, such as stationery and candy.

Kawaii Box March Review & Giveaway

kawaii box japan march 2017 - review and giveaway

If you’ve been following my blog, you might have heard of Kawaii Box. With this cute monthly subscription box you’ll receive 10 to 12 hand-picked kawaii items from Japan and Korea at home. My March Kawaii Box arrived just a couple of days after the Easter Bunny had left the country. But I still really enjoyed the Easter Box, which contained lots of bunnies and pastel colored goodies.

This review is a bit long so if you haven’t got much time on your hands, do scroll to the bottom for a chance to win a Kawaii Box!

kawaii box japan march 2017 - animal sticky notes

First up are two cute stationery items; a candy gel pen and a set of whimsical sticky notes. Both items will come to good use! The pearl pendant on the pen is really pretty up close; it’s shimmery and the silver cap contains sparkly gems.

The bunny purse is my absolute favourite items of the box! I received Lala from the Little Twin Stars shaped as a bunny. The purse is very soft and the zipper works like a charm. Also look at that sweet fluffy tail on the back! The only odd thing is that the tag said Pompompurin, which is one of Sanrio’s other characters.

kawaii box japan march 2017 - cat bookmark magnets

Next up are set of magnetic cat bookmarks. The magnets are cute and do their job well. But I think that they lack a bit of quality, as they are simply made out of sturdy paper.

kawaii box japan march 2017 - puffy bunny stickers

As a sticker hoarder collector, I was happy to find a sticker sheet filled with puffy bunnies inside the box.

The Easter Kawaii Box also contained some deco items. I was lucky to receive space-cat and cactus tattoos, which are right up my alley. The acrylic pins are not really my style, but I do like the random Japanese text on the mobile phone (it says ichigo/strawberry).

kawaii box japan march 2017 - kracie popin' cookin' neri candy land DIY kit

The Popin’ Cookin’ Neri Candy Land set is a DIY kit that I’ve tried before and really enjoyed. This candy is almost like edible clay and we all know how much fun it is to play with food, right? Another treat that I received was one tiny pack of Morinaga Disney chocolate biscuits, which is perfect for chocoholics (like me) Razz

The box also contained some treats without calories; carrot erasers and a macaron travel tag. The back of the tag has a small window with a card for your name and address. I’m sure that it will brighten up my suitcase!

The price for a Kawaii Box starts at $20.90 a month, with free worldwide shipping. This brings the average price per item to about $2, so that’s a very nice deal for a kawaii surprise. The subscription price has gone up a bit compared to previous years, but personally I think that the content also keeps getting better.

P.S. If you’d like to buy anything directly on Blippo, you can use the code KAWAIILOVE for a 10% discount.
